Blog 5 Prompt - Effective Audio Stories

Before we get to the prompt, here's something: You all are getting a little crazy with the way you label your posts. Let's all agree from here on out that your posts will have two labels: one label is your name, and the second is the title of the assignment. These labels should be separated by a comma. If you're unsure about the name of the assignment, ask me. Because you didn't have a blog post last week, this week's post is "blog 5". The 300-word fiction assignment is "300-word fiction." Labeling makes things easier for us to classify, which makes things easier to grade.

Now, the prompt, which requires a bit of what I hope is enjoyable research:

Part 1: Based on our class discussion and your own reading and research, what makes an interesting audio story? As you move forward, what pitfalls do you hope to avoid and what successes do you hope to emulate? What kinds of stories seem to resonate with you?

Part 2: Find an audio story that you admire (if you've never looked for such a thing before, I recommend This American Life, Radio Lab, or perusing the archives of the Third Coast Audio festival). Link to the episode or show in question, and talk specifically about what you admire about how the story was created. What elements do they use? How do they use them effectively?
