First of all, I apologize for the awful quality of this video, but I had trouble finding one of decent quality.
When reading the prompt I immediately thought of this ad that AT&T released where they connected their phone company with the founder of Toms shoes. This was a VERY smart move by AT&T in my opinion. Toms is a shoe company that gives a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes purchased, as mentioned in the video. AT&T effectively utilizes Toms shoes for advertisements because everybody can connect to types of stories that serves others. In turn people feel like they are helping charity while helping themselves when buying Toms through this ad.
Representing Toms in AT&Ts work was a critical and progressive move they made.

This video is short but very effective in showing the difference that not only Tom's shoes is making, but AT&T along side of them. The phone company is making it possible for this charity program to work so effectively. It's a win win situation it seems and I love it. Great choice of subject and video.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw this video on TV I remember thinking that was an effective commercial. It makes you think about AT&T as a charitable company, which makes you more likely to choose them as your service provider. I wonder, though, about the ethics of using a humanitarian cause as a springboard for a business advertisement. It seems almost hypocritical. As for what Toms is doing, I think it's a great cause and was well represented in this video. Why not buy great shoes AND have a pair be sent to someone in need? Sounds great to me.
ReplyDeleteI thought of this commercial when read the assignment too. I love Toms shoes and love their platform of giving a pair of shoes every time someone buys one. I think AT&T was very smart in teaming up with them as well. (even though Verizon will always be my favorite). Toms is a very well known brand and pretty respected. But i also agree with Whitney on using this as a business advertisement. But either way this commercial was still pretty effective.
