I do not remember exactly how I found this story because I fold it a few years ago. I was probably just wasting time on Youtube, clicking on recommended videos. I feel that this is an important story because it shows the importance of love and forgiveness. Everybody in the world makes mistakes; nobody is perfect. But it is important that one chooses forgiveness over resent, love over hate. It also demonstrates that one should never judge others. But, rather, be accepting. All of these things are important aspects of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus taught that forgiveness and love to all of mankind, regardless of circumstances and background. Another reason why it is an important story is because many people can relate to it. While some may not have done something as consequential as the daughter in this video did (or maybe they have), nevertheless, everyone has all made mistakes. While somebody can expect punishment, they hope for love and understanding.
This is interesting as a digital story because the audience is able to see flashbacks to the daughter growing up and her relationship with her father. The storyteller would not be able to make that jump in traditional forms of storytelling such as literature or theatre. And that is how the story uses its medium. There is also a quick shot of the father's POV, looking out the window at his daughter's boyfriend. This shot suggest the father's distance relationship/unfamiliarity with the boyfriend. Also, there is sweet dramatic music, which is impossible with some forms of storytelling.
Interestingly enough, the story wants the audience to purchase life or health insurance. It dramatically engages the audience's emotion, in hopes of convincing people to buy their product. It also wants the audience to reflect on their own lives and families. But mostly to buy insurance.

I feel pretty conflicted about this story and almost wish that this video wasn't a commercial. This is such a powerful story written and filmed extremely well, and all that for what? For convincing us to buy insurance? I guess it doesn't resonate as much with me because I feel that they toyed with our emotions in order to pursue a hidden agenda. But at the same time, if you're going to film something it might as well have meaning, so why not promote a good cause while trying to sell a product? I could keep going in circles with this, but I think it's obvious where I'm coming from. Does anyone else have a more solid opinion?
