Islamic MOA Exhibit
The first thing that I want to mention is how much I love going to the museum, I am reminded how cool they are and how much I really want to talk my family to different museums often. When I saw this art thought about the people who made this art, people who come from this culture. I love thinking about other peoples’ culture, what they like and what they enjoy and how their faith and belief in God inspires them to artistic greatness. When I saw the art it was both foreign and familiar. My culture does not produce this kind of art, and so I don’t see it very often, however it was familiar because I have been introduced to this kind of art.
Islamic art focuses on the word, and many of the works of art have calligraphy on them. This is different than Christian art which usually depicts the picture of a story. Islamic art can have pictures of humans and things, but that type of art is not allowed in places of worship because it could be seen as ideal worship. Patterns are very prevalent in Islamic art, I did not ready anything about why patterns are used but I believe that they are an expression of reverence because it shows patience. I think patience can show respect for God, and can also show a deep appreciation for what God has created and also the ability that God has given to the people, they show their gratitude to God for giving them their artistic gifts.
I actually did ponder on how this art teaches me about my own art and how it inspires me. This will be hard to explain but as I was looking at one of the carpets I thought that it was cool, but that it did not seem to have a lot of symbolism or deep meaning, and although it would be cool to make a movie with deep meaning and symbolism it would also be cool to just make a good movie that is fun to watch, just like the carpet that is fun to look at.
I very much enjoy going through the exhibit and I made sure I looked at everything before I left because it was awesome!
