I learned that there is so much more to art than I thought. When I think of art, I normally think of painting or drawings, or something like that. But art is everywhere! It was cool to do my podcast on a rapper, because that is definitely not what first pops into my head when I think about artists. I also learned that you should never let your religious beliefs stop you from doing something you love. Rap is dominated by mostly profanity and vulgar topics. There are a lot of great aspects to it, but there is also a lot of things that don't coincide with Mormonism. Interviewing Michael, really helped me understand that we dont need to compromise what we believe in. I learned that I need to be more open with my faith when I get out in the real world. We are in the Provo bubble right now, but once I get out in the real world, I don't need to hide or fail to mention the fact that I am Mormon. It is something I should be proud of and show in my work,
Being a Mormon artist to me, means that you reflect what we believe in through your art. It doesn't need to be preachy or super religious. In my opinion, it is just making sure that what you are creating is uplifting and will have a good effect on the people viewing it. Of course it shouldn't go against anything we believe in, but I don't think it needs to be this cookie cutter G rated work of art. Being a Mormon artist is being an example of Christ in everything you do. It doesn't have to be anything big or profound or convert anyone, it just needs to be something that has the light of Christ in it.
